It is a short placement organized by any Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) or industries for registered and active students. It can either be credit-bearing or non-credit-bearing, based on the academic structure of your respective course.

The duration of the mobility programme ranges according to the programme. However, for IMU to record the activities as international student mobility programmes, it has to be a minimum of 14 days to a maximum of 12 months, to be eligible for funding purposes by the university.
Yes, virtual programme can be considered as a student mobility programme. SMP can be conducted either physically (in person) or virtually (online).
You need to determine the learning outcomes that are aligned with your module/course structure. Using these learning outcomes, you can choose the type of placement that would enable you to achieve the learning outcomes.
Once you have chosen the type of placement, you should seek advice from your module/mobility coordinator before you submit your application.
At this point of time, IO will only assist the students’ applications for SMP conducted at our partner schools.
Your module/mobility coordinator will notify you on the placement period which is based on the mobility window(s) of your course structure.
You should apply 6 months before the mobility placement start date.

They will assist you in identifying suitable partner institutions, understanding application procedures, and providing necessary support throughout the application process. - Application Process
Follow the application process outlined by the respective institution or university. - Confirmation and Preparations
After submitting your application, wait for confirmation from the institution or university regarding your acceptance into the mobility programme. Once accepted, you can start preparing for your mobility experience, which may include arranging accommodation, transportation, flight tickets, obtaining necessary visa and insurance. - Stay in Touch
Throughout the application process and during your mobility placement, stay in touch with the International Office at IMU or the relevant department at the host institution for any assistance or support you may need.
There might be fees impose by the host institution and some other expenses (i.e.: accommodation, transportation, flight tickets, visa, and insurance) might be occurred for your mobility placement and shall be borne by the students.
Yes, financial aid is available for students participating in international mobility placements. There are 2 types of financial aids:
- The IMU SMP Financial Aid
- Global Exposure Funding by Schools
Here are the steps to apply for financial aid:
- Acceptance Letter from International Institution
Ensure that your application to the international institution or university for the mobility placement is approved. - Submit Online Form
Once your placement is confirmed, you can submit the online form for Outbound SMP Financial Aid in (HERE).
Please note that this financial aid is on a claim-basis, subject to the Mobility Committee’s approval and it is based on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is fully utilized.
